Bringing Laundry Operations Back In-House at Historic Keltic Lodge

East Coast Laundry Systems Completes Full Laundry Room Modernization at One of Cape Breton's Most Iconic Destinations

Nestled on the breathtaking cliffs of Ingonish, Nova Scotia, Keltic Lodge stands as one of Atlantic Canada's most recognized hospitality destinations. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the world-famous Cabot Trail, the historic resort has welcomed guests from around the globe for generations, offering unforgettable experiences, championship golf, and spectacular views of the Cape Breton Highlands.

In April 2026, East Coast Laundry Systems was proud to partner with Keltic Lodge on a major laundry room modernization project designed to bring linen processing back in-house and support the resort's current operational needs.

Rebuilding an In-House Laundry Operation

For several seasons, Keltic Lodge had relied on outsourced laundry services to process guest room linens, towels, and food and beverage textiles. While outsourcing provided a temporary solution, it also introduced ongoing costs and reduced operational control.

The decision was made to reactivate and modernize the resort's on-premise laundry facility, allowing the housekeeping team to regain control over linen production while reducing outsourcing expenses.

To accomplish this, East Coast Laundry Systems supplied and installed:

  • Two Domus 65 lb Hard Mount Washer Extractors

  • Two Huebsch 75 lb Gas Tumble Dryers

  • One Domus Flatwork Ironer

The equipment package was carefully sized to match the property's current room inventory and food and beverage linen requirements, ensuring the laundry operation could efficiently handle both guest room and dining service volumes.

A Complete Transformation

This project involved more than simply replacing a few machines.

Much of the existing equipment had been in service for decades, including an ironer washers, and dryers that had operated for more than 50+ years. The aging equipment had reached end of its life and was not usable.

One of the most challenging aspects of the project was the removal of the original ironer. Due to its size, weight, and the limited access points within the building, extensive planning and coordination were required to safely remove the equipment and prepare the space for its replacement.

Working at a remote location in northern Cape Breton also required careful logistics to coordinate equipment delivery, installation, and commissioning.

Despite these challenges, all existing equipment was removed and the new laundry system installed during a single week in early spring, allowing the facility to be fully operational before guests returned for the season.

Equipment Selected for Performance and Efficiency

The new laundry system was designed to provide reliable throughput while improving operating efficiency.

Domus 65 lb Washer Extractors

The two Domus 65 lb hard-mount washer extractors were selected to provide the washing capacity required for Keltic Lodge's housekeeping and food service operations. Featuring intuitive touchscreen controls, programmable wash formulas, and high extraction speeds, the machines help reduce water consumption while preparing linens for faster drying.

Huebsch 75 lb Gas Tumble Dryers

The Huebsch gas tumble dryers were paired with the washer extractors to provide balanced production flow throughout the laundry process. Designed for efficient airflow and shorter drying times, the dryers help maximize throughput while minimizing energy consumption.

Domus Flatwork Ironer

A key component of the project was the installation of a Domus flatwork ironer. With a 130-inch working width, the ironer was selected specifically to accommodate the resort's king-sized sheets, pillowcases, and table linens. This capability enables staff to produce a high-quality finish while maintaining consistency across guest rooms and dining areas.

Supporting Hospitality Excellence in Cape Breton

For a destination property such as Keltic Lodge, linen quality plays an important role in the overall guest experience. Crisp sheets, fresh towels, and professionally finished table linens all contribute to the standard guests expect from one of Nova Scotia's premier resorts.

By bringing laundry operations back in-house, Keltic Lodge now has greater control over production schedules, linen quality, and inventory management while reducing dependence on outsourced processing.

The result is a modern, efficient laundry operation built to support the resort's future needs while helping control operating costs.
